Filson was founded in 1897 in Seattle, Washington, as an "outdoor clothing manufacturer" for those taking on the Gold Rush. To cope with the harsh conditions of gold mining, which can be extremely harsh on clothing, the company began producing apparel using the finest natural materials and uncompromising design and stitching. Before long, the Filson mark became synonymous with trust for men working in Alaska and the Northwest.
When it comes to wool, it still takes more than two years from harvesting the raw wool to finishing the product, and because of this stubbornness, it continues to be loved by people who require true quality in harsh natural environments, such as US forest rangers, lumberjacks, hunters, and adventurers, and is also used by some staff of the US Air Force and Army.
