Island Slippers has been produced on the island of Oahu in Hawaii since its founding in 1946.
The history of the company dates back to when Takizo Motonaga, a Japanese immigrant to Hawaii, created the prototype for sandals, and his son, Edward Motonaga, turned it into a factory and developed it into a sandal company.
In 1986, Motonaga was succeeded by John Carpenter (current president), and the Airado Slippers brand has grown significantly into a global sandal manufacturer.
Since its founding, the company has maintained its philosophy of being a resort sandal manufacturer that does everything from design to manufacturing in Hawaii, and all of its products are made in Hawaii.
Island Slippers are made in their own factory in Pearl City using traditional Hawaiian printed fabrics and carefully selected leather from the U.S. mainland. The factory has almost no precision machinery, and each pair is handcrafted by skilled craftsmen, filled with the love of both the craftsmen and the company's presidents, John and Daisy, who oversee them.
Island Slippers, which are made with such love and warmth from handmade products, are very different in style from simple beach sandals worn at the beach.
Just by putting on the Island Slippers, the usual asphalt road becomes a grassy plain, the hectic pace of life changes to a slower pace, and you feel truly relaxed.
