Samuel Zelig
2019 BRAND START
It was started by two designers: the son of the founder of American denim brand True Religion, and his grandfather a famous American artist.
Later, the latter left the group, and a friend from his fashion school days, who was working as a designer at Ralph Lauren, joined the brand, where he remains to this day.
Samuel Zelig is inspired by American sportswear and workwear from the 1930s to 1950s, and is committed to redefining the meaning of workwear for a modern audience by faithfully following the traditions and details found in the clothing of that time while designing using modern sewing and dyeing techniques.
The two designers, who have a deep knowledge of vintage clothing, envision a "Dream Vintage" (a dream-like vintage piece that does not exist, but would be worth immeasurable if it did), and design items based on that vision.
All designs, from patchwork to embroidery, are original by the designer. He pays homage to various elements of old America, such as culture and art, and creates illustrations that add his own unique interpretation.
25AW 2nd Drop LOOKBOOK

Samuel's 25AW second delivery has arrived.
This time we will introduce two themes.
・JARDIN
・MEDIEVAL

(JARDIN / Garden, Botanical Garden)
This time, we wanted to take an unexpected approach to floral embroidery, imagining the floral theme from SAMUEL ZELIG's unique perspective.
The inspiration came from the Huntington Gardens in San Marino, California, a library, art collection, and botanical garden.
Embroidered motifs include stone planters, embossed books, specimen insects and an iron gate reminiscent of a garden entrance.
The text "Jardin du Temps (Garden of Time)" comes from a French collection of poems, and I felt it was perfectly appropriate for a place like this.
Samuel Zelig / JARDIN CREWNECK (DUSTY ROSE)

Jardin crew neck sweatshirt.
Made from 15 oz heavyweight cotton French terry, it features set-in sleeves and flatlock seams for a comfortable fit.
The color of the body is great. The processing gives it a vintage look. This color is not too flashy and is easy to wear.
It can also be worn as an inner layer.
SAMUEL has many items that have an American casual feel, but this time we have many items that have a different feel.
Personally, I would rather pair it with nice slacks than denim or chinos.
This is a perfect piece to describe wearing art.

(MEDIEVAL)
"MEDIEVAL" began with a fascination with illuminated manuscripts. The more I looked into them, the more I noticed the mysterious little creatures that monks had drawn in the margins of their beautifully intricate books.
At first, I imagined it was some lonely monk sneaking a glass of wine and playfully slipping drawings into the margins to see how far he could go, but I later learned it wasn't just a whim, it was a tradition called "marginalia."
Marginalia are the scribbles, scribbles, and annotations scattered in the margins of manuscripts, sometimes drawn for no apparent reason, and sometimes because paper was so precious there was no other place to write.
Using this marginalia as a starting point, we imagined a fictional museum that collects relics and curiosities of medieval saints. Giving the museum the slogan "Illuminated Relics of Helmstedt" held a very personal meaning, as the German town of Helmstedt is where our designer's mother grew up, where her grandmother still lives, and where medieval history is still strong. This connection made it even more fitting for our theme.
The drawings in this group reflect the meticulous brushwork of the Middle Ages while also projecting the spirit of marginalia: playful imps scurrying about, angels soaring through the sky, and even a reference to the medieval zodiac, which was used as a guide to determine medical availability throughout the year.
Samuel Zelig / MEDIEVAL CREWNECK (POWDER BLUE)

Samuel Zelig / MEDIEVAL SWEAT PANT (POWDER BLUE)

Medieval crew neck sweatshirt and sweatpants.
Both are made from 15 oz thick cotton French terry.
This is also a nice color. I think it would be difficult for a Japanese brand to achieve such exquisite coloring. Their sense of color is excellent.
I would like to wear it as a set. Personally, I like to wear it with leather shoes and a long coat.
The exquisite body color and white and red embroidery create a well-balanced overall look.
I also really like the medieval religious patterns, which go well with the colors.
I personally wear pants, but I always reach for sweatpants because they're so comfortable. SAMUEL sweatpants have a thick, sturdy body. They'll be especially useful in the early fall.
That's all for this time's introduction.
The 3rd Drop has also arrived, so we will introduce it next time!
We look forward to your visit.
